Tusker FFA results in explosions and hilarity.

Saturday night played host to the Tusker Frigate FFA. Over 120 pilots gathered for a massive brawl, resulting in over 2000 ships being destroyed over the course of a few hours – nearly all of them actually frigates!

The action kicked off at 2000 EVE time, with nearly all of us on the Tusker’s mumble server to chat away. Once the “go” was given, most people warped to the top belt to begin the brawl.

The Battle begins

I had chosen a Rail Atron as my ship of choice, and had about 5 tucked a couple of jumps away in High Security space. Having never flown this fit before, I was unsure what it could do. Not a lot, as it turns out. The poor DPS was, however, mitigated by the fact it was fast as hell.

Belt 1 was quick turning into a graveyard – pilot after pilot went GCC and exploded against each other. The sound of autocannons and blasters filled the liquidy space of EVE.

Half an hour into the fight!

Many e-famous EVE players graced us with their presence. Miura Bull of  Brutor Bullfighter, Mangala Solaris of RvB, Rixx Javix of EVEOGANDA and Cheradenine Harper of Diaries of a Space Noob all showed up to prove that they were the best out there. We even had EVE’s famous singer, Sindel Pellion appear!

The Tuskers were providing free tech1 fitted frigates from the station,  so even the poorest among us were able to reship time and time again. My first Atron died to a Firetail, but I avenged it by scoring a bunch of kills across the board with the second Atron. I even saw Sindel sitting, at 0, in a Velator.

I did the only thing I could do.

I’M SORRY SINDEL

The night raged on, with the battles spilling into every belt and onto every custom’s office in the whole system. Each warpin was a battleground and wrecks clogged the overview.

I engaged Cheradenine briefly here, but he warped in Structure.

The Tusker’s did their part in spicing up the  night – they dropped cans with various loot (PLEX, Faction items) at planets and Faction Warfare complexes, followed by an announcement in local. That chosen spot soon become a new battlefield.

I may have dropped on and killed a Mangala.

I soon swapped my Atrons for a Merlin and Incursus, loving the massively increased DPS.

One of the Tusker organisers even warped a Megathron out for us to try to kill, which we obviously did.

My personal favourite kill was a Daredevil who decided to GCC against me in a belt – whilst at 0. Scram, web, dead. K.

At 2200 EVE, the field opened up to allow Tech 2 and Faction frigates to take part – normally ending in the T1 pilots ganging up on their more powerful brethren!

WOOP WOOP THIS IS THE SOUND OF THE POLICE

One of the asteroid belts during the brawl – quite a lot of wrecks!

I, uh, enjoy killing Mangala

Finally, as they said they would, Fweddit showed up 15 minutes before the end in Blackbirds, Thrashers and Hurricanes – by this point there was only about 50 of us remaining. Good going, guys.

The Tuskers ended the night by launching a Faction Fit Smartbomb Navy Typhoon at the star, which we had a bit of trouble killing!

Smartbombs, how do they work?

We had to bail the field as the Typhoon entered structure since Fweddit finally showed their faces, alpha’d a few frigs (and the Phoon!) and warped off again. Oh well!

We’ve posted all the kills we can on the RvB Ganked Killboard HERE.

Easily one of the best nights I’ve had in EVE so far – the combat was fun, the setup was excellent and the comms were hilarious. Many thanks to the pilots involved in setting it all up.

If the Tuskers do another FFA, you should all attend. It’s worth every ship.

Remaining T1 Frigates to become Logistics frigates

Ever wonder about the remaining Tech 1 frigates? They’re being turned into Remote Repair ships. Forum thread here.
——
Hello again everyone. Hope you all had a good weekend.

This post will cover the last four tech one frigates to get a discussion thread. This is in many ways the trickiest but also the most rewarding part of the winter frigate rebalance, since we are creating a new role for these frigates and hopefully shaking up frigate combat quite a bit.

Each race will be getting a tech one logistics frigate, bonused in remote repairing. These ships will be replacing the mining frigates that are being displaced by the new ORE frigate, taking the Inquisitor from the Amarr lineup instead because we already stole the Tormentor to make a mini-Armageddon.

Our goals here are
1) Create a new set of interesting gameplay choices when flying or fighting against frigate groups
2) Provide an upgrade path for new players on their way to Logistics ships

These ships are weaker for their size than our T2 Logistics Ships are, and that is by design. This reflects both the lower cost and SP investment and our desire that these ships compliment current frigate warfare without eclipsing all the other ships in the lineup. I am aware that any expansion of logistics capability in eve makes things harder for solo players, and we are endeavoring to make sure that these frigates add options to combat instead of taking them away.

So these ships have a max rep range of 28.8km with T2 reps and are generally among the slowest of the tech one frigates. We built them quite heavy so that they perform closer to destroyers/interdictors than the other frigates. Piloting these ships effectively in the midst of a battle will require some thought, helping create ships that are easy to get into but take time to master.

Along with the changes to the ships we are also changing the fitting requirements of small remote armor and shield reps. Details of those changes are (apologies for the formatting):

More combat frigate re-balancing

I’ll return to normal blogging soon, but I’m being hit hard by non-EVE things lately and simply have had not the time on my hands to do anything. In the meantime, here’s some more stuff from the guys at CCP.

Another round of changes, this time it’s the Tristan, Kestrel and Breacher being looked at. Thread here.

Hello again Features & Ideas. Today we’re going to be showing you the current designs for the last three revamped Combat Frigates, set for release this winter.

Many of you will have guessed that the Amarr weren’t going to remain the only race with two Combat Frigates. Having the Punisher and Tormentor representing different combat styles within the same general use case is a pattern we want to repeat with the other races, so we’re revamping the Kestrel, Tristan and Breacher.

You will also see that the direction we’re going with these frigs means that our plans have changed somewhat since the dev blog a few months ago.

Without further ado, here’s the ships we have to show you today!

T1 Exploration Frigate Balancing

Continuing the recent forum threads floating possible changes to the remaining T1 frigates, CCP Fozzie has posted up some changes for the exploration Tech 1 frigates (you know, the scan ones) here.

———-

Hello again spacefriends! Today I’m going to share with you our current plans for the tech one probing frigates, coming this winter.

These ships are currently used for Cyno lighting more than anything else, and we want to build their role as frigates for exploring deep space (especially to provide more interesting exploration gameplay for new players). We hope to see them being used for solo highsec exploration for newer players, or to support the combat ships in an exploration group in wormholes or lawless space. They’re getting bonuses to hacking, archeology and salvaging so you can use them to both probe and run mini-profession sites.
Their combat ability has also been directed at drones instead of weak weapon bonuses. We’ve designed them to be able to kill the rats in highsec mini-profession sites, although a combat frig will clear them faster. The ship isn’t directly intended for a pvp role, so the ehp remains quite low and we skewed the fittings towards CPU and away from PG. Best way to kill the rats with this ship is fit a light active tank, drop drones and kite.

We wanted these ships to feel like an expedition vessel for newer players, something that can run sites independently and with enough cargo, no ammo use and extra dronespace to take long journeys away from their home base (even if they stay in highsec). If the style of ship is embraced then these could possibly serve as stepping stones into some kind of tech two “Science vessel” in the future.

Here’s our current versions of the ships:

T1 EWAR Frigate rebalance

Hot on the heels of the proposed Destroyer changes, a wild CCP post on further improving the T1 frigates has appeared.

Original here

——

Insert tired and overused Game of Thrones reference here.

Good news everyone! Now that we have Inferno 1.2 out the door we’re going to start posting threads for stuff we are working on for the winter. My first set is the T1 EW frigs (Crucifier, Griffin, Maulus, Vigil). We’re giving them the tiericide treatment which means that since they were formerly low-tier they are getting very significant buffs.

Our vision for these ships is that they become commonly used by newer players to take useful roles in fleets of many sizes. These changes are not being made in a vaccum, we expect to release them alongside a lot more balance changes in the Winter that should include the T1 EW cruisers and some tweaks to certain ewar mechanics themselves (among other things).

The Crucifier and Vigil are being given strong roles towards longer range disruption, and the fact that the Griffin and Maulus are more medium range oriented is intended and part of the overall environment change.

We also realize that these changes will make the current problems with EAFs even more obvious, and we’re putting a lot of thought into them as well.

Like all the posts we make in this forum, these ships are a work in progress and we’re looking for as much feedback as possible.
